40 YEAR REUNION

40 YEAR REUNION – NHS CLASS OF 78 – SATURDAY, JUNE 23, 2018

Yikes – We’re almost 60.  Let’s get together and have some fun!  Below is a summary of what’s planned:

 Friday – Happy Hour at a to be determined time and location.

Saturday at the Newark Country Club – Buffet dinner, music, cash bar and fun, 6 to 11p.m.  Our very own Dave Adcock and his band, Acoustic Axis, will perform from 9 to 11. 

Sunday – Brunch at a to be determined time and location.

Cost is $55 per person or $110 per couple.  Please get your $ in by June 1st so we can plan everything.  Send check, payable to Monika Schirm Dougherty at 116 Poe Drive, Smyrna, DE  19977 or you can pay via Venmo app by sending your payment to andrewtpanaccione.  You must download and join Venmo first.  There are no fees.  Payment will go directly to our Class of 78 checking account.  Regardless of how you pay, please provide full names of those attending.

In Memory of Carroll W. Mumford III

Carroll W. Mumford III of Newark, DE, age 56, passed away Monday, February 27, 2017. He was born in Wilmington, DE on August 3, 1960 to Dorothy (Hawthorne) Mumford and the late Carroll W. Mumford, Jr.

Carroll was a graduate of Newark High School and the University of Delaware. He was a successful insurance agent with New York Life Insurance Co. for over 15 years. Carroll enjoyed golf, reading and spending time at the beach.

Carroll is survived by his six children: Mary Jeanne, Allison, Madeline, Brooke, Timothy and Megan, his mother, Dorothy Mumford of Newark, DE, and his sister, Deborah L. Mumford of Rehoboth Beach, DE. He was preceded in death by his father, Carroll W. Mumford, Jr.

A visitation for Carroll will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2017 between 3PM and 5PM at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711. Service and burial will be private. Memorial donations in Carroll’s honor may be made payable “GBS-CIDP Foundation International” (Guillain-Barre Syndrome Foundation) and sent in care of R.T Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Summer 2015 Class Picnic

Pax Thomas Williams

Pax Thomas Williams, 54, of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 24, 2014 while scuba diving.

Pax was born in Wilmington, Delaware. He graduated from Newark High School, and went on to college at the University of Delaware where he received bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science in 1982 and 1985. Pax was an accomplished competitive swimmer and never lost his love of the water. Pax married Kathleen McKearin in 1985 and lived for 17 years in Maryland before moving to Kennett Square in 2002.

Pax worked in the area of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) defense technology for over 28 years, first as a civilian employee of the Department of Defense, and then for Battelle Memorial Institute. He led the technical development of multiple pieces of equipment currently employed to protect soldiers from CBRN threats. In addition to the wide technical expertise required, Pax was known within the CBRN community for being exceptionally kind to all of the staff that worked with him on these programs.

Pax was a devoted father, husband, recent grandfather and great friend. Pax loved skiing, hiking, scuba diving and cycling and enjoyed all of these activities and more with his family and friends.

Pax is survived by his wife Kathy, his son Sean Williams, daughter Casey Irwin, son-in-law Scott Irwin and his precious granddaughter, Gwen Irwin, his parents, Ralph and Bernice Williams, and his brothers Rim and Todd Williams.

A viewing will be held at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707 on Thursday, May 29th, from 6-8 PM. Additional visitation will be held at Willowdale Chapel, 675 Unionville Road, Kennett Square, PA 19348, on Friday, May 30, from 9-10:30 AM with the funeral service to follow at 10:30 a.m. The burial immediately following at Head of Christiana Cemetery in Newark, Delaware.It is that time of year again for the next NHS ALL Class Reunion at the Deer Park!
